About The VISTA Member:
Khaleef A. Alexander born and raised in Philadelphia is a graduate from Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School in 2014. During high school I had the opportunity to travel abroad to Jamaica for a service learning project. During my time in High School I developed a passion for politics and service. Thus I enrolled at Delaware State University earning a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from Delaware State University. During the summer of 2016 I interned in the City Controller of Philadelphia’s office in the community affairs department. Going out to community events, meetings and being able to understand how the disparities in Philadelphia. Currently I am a Masters candidate at Delaware State University and working to serve Philadelphia to help change some of the disparities and economic gaps.
About The VISTA Position:
The Community and Parent Engagement VISTA will create a system of capacity-building opportunities to increase volunteer opportunities for families and community members to support and engage in school-based activities and events that enhance school climate. By developing regularly occurring opportunities at the school or nearby, families and community members will have structured opportunities to volunteer and build community at the school and at the neighborhood level. The goal is to increase the quality of opportunities, the number of new volunteers, and the sustainability of the opportunities.
