About The VISTA Member:
Victoria graduated from Temple University with a B.A. in Political Science as well as in History. During her time at Temple she interned with First Up, an organization that advocates for early childhood education. This is where she first began to be interested in finding a way that she could make a positive impact in the field of education. She is passionate about education, policy, and history, and is excited for her year of service. In her free time, she loves to go for hikes, read, and spend time with her friends.
About The VISTA Position:
Presently, less than half of Philadelphia students arrive to their first day of kindergarten ready to learn. These children are behind in basic literacy, social, and behavioral skills required for success in kindergarten and the early grades. The VISTA will work with the City of Philadelphia, School District of Philadelphia, early childhood education partners, parents, and other stakeholders to develop, coordinate and implement strategies that help students successfully transition from pre-kindergarten (pre-K) to elementary school, thereby helping students enjoy their first school experience and accept school responsibilities/behaviors that contribute to achievement in later grades.
