 About The VISTA Member:

Chataki McDonald attended Gettysburg College as an Anthropology major where she found an appreciation for learning about different cultures. She has always been interested in helping others and has spent time volunteering to tutor and help provide meals for the underprivileged community. Chataki has decided she wants to volunteer with AmeriCorps Vista because she wanted to gain experience working to help people indirectly or behind the scenes.

Opioid Emergency Response VISTA- Mission Area 3

About The VISTA Position:

The opioid crisis is a complex health and social issue negatively impacting Kensington and surrounding neighborhoods in Philadelphia. The areas most affected have an average poverty rate of 40% or higher.  The Resilience Project is a comprehensive approach focusing on cleaning up the neighborhood and making it safe for residents while also providing compassionate, effective care and access to treatment and housing for people living with substance use disorder which will ultimately reduce poverty. The VISTA assigned to Mission Area 3, reduce unsheltered population, will support efforts that increase access to safe and affordable housing for those experiencing homelessness and at imminent risk of homelessness.
