My name is Samantha Long. I graduated from Temple University in May 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. I was born and raised in Philadelphia and have a passion for helping others. During my free time, I enjoy reading and spending time at home with my family.
About The VISTA Position:
The opioid crisis is a complex health and social issue negatively impacting Kensington and surrounding neighborhoods in Philadelphia. The areas most affected have an average poverty rate of 40% or higher. The Resilience Project is a comprehensive approach focusing on cleaning up the neighborhood and making it safe for residents while also providing compassionate, effective care and access to treatment and housing for people living with substance use disorder which will ultimately reduce poverty. The VISTA assigned to Mission Area 5, reducing overdoses and the spread of infectious diseases, by increasing the effectiveness of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies for the treatment of substance use disorders.
